THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA...

Rome is a very busy city and very chaotic, it is better to move by taxi and walk a lot, if possible, avoid the metro/subway, and the train station.

I strongly recommend to visit

  • Galleria Borghese  incredible villa museum in a beautiful park (reserve in advance with a guide)

  • Palazzo Valentini by the Trajan's Forum (you will go inside ancient Rome, it is better to take the longest tour 1:30 minutes, it's incredible!).

  • Castel Sant'Angelo (go inside, a lot to see).

  • Palazzo Colonna (open to the public on Saturday morning, it's a small Versailles, there are quite many of those in Rome with art and gardens on even the second or third  floor!).

  • Galleria Doria Pamphilj.

  • Via Appia Antica with its catacombs and ancient aqueducts  (great restaurant there called l'Archeologia)

  • Capitolini Museums in Campidoglio.

  • Walk to see the numerous beautiful fountains and squares of Rome (Trevi, Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, Barberini, Campo dei Fiori, etc.), do not miss the Pantheon (go inside).

  • Reserve in advance for Saint Peter's Basilica, you can go to the dome and the Vatican Museums (reserve in advance to avoid line ups).

  • Reserve in advance for the Colosseum-Roman Forum-Palatino Tour (3 hours).

  • Ostia Antica (not far from the airport) is a small Pompeii.

  • You can relax and cool down on the beach in Ostia
    • Tibidabo Beach Srl
    • Beach club e pool club a Lido di Ostia

  • There are many great cafes including the historical Caffe Greco where famous poets, philosophers and artists from different countries used to meet, check also Giolitti (famous gelato), check the famous coffee/cappuccino of Rome in Sant Eustachio Cafe, go to "Il Vero Alfredo" Restaurant (discover where Alfredo sauce comes from, and you will notice many photos of famous American actors and presidents who went there).  If it is cold, the hot chocolate is really good, try Venchi's or il Caffe Greco...  If you want to relax by the water, you can go to the "porto di Roma", the port of Rome on the weekend. Check these links for more ideas.
